Cardiac Rehabilitation in Elderly
Im Sang-Hee

Abstract
Elderly patients now make up the majority of cardiac patients eligible for cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs. Many studies have reported the beneficial effects of CR for coronary heart disease (CHD) patients on mortality, exercise capacity, psychological risk factors, inflammation and obesity. Unfortunately, utilization of CR by older patients with CHD has historically been poor. However, in the expectation of positive effects of CR on many elderly patients, who are at higher risk for complications and accelerated physical deconditioning after coronary event, they need to be encouraged to participate in CR. Here we are going to review the benefit of CR among the elderly patients and describe clinical implications of CR for them.
